Sources for finding GPs and the Police

Last Friday I was helping someone out with Negative Checks.

For the uninitiated, all fictional names used in broadcasting need to be checked before use, to avoid possible legal problems later.

It’s not the most fun of jobs, but it fairly puts you through your paces in terms of source knowledge.

So through the process of trying to find out whether there is a GP or policeman who share names with potential fictitious characters, I stumbled upon a couple of really useful sites, journalistically speaking.

The first is the GMC’s List of Registered Medical Practitioners – where you can find details for all registered GPs in the UK. The second is the APA’s map of English Police Authorities (with contacts).
