Over the weekend a Canadian programmer was able to access the private gallaries of various celebrities in Myspace.
Using a convoluted method (which doesn’t work anymore – Myspace have clearly got wind), he was able to exploit ‘data portability’ between Yahoo and Myspace. This relates to the sharing of information between social networks and other sites, which is seriously beneficial to anyone who signs up to a range of social networks, but a serious risk to those who are happy with just the one.
He accessed the accounts and private pictures of Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan, and did so perfectly legally.
I guess the moral of this story is that no amount of ‘user education’ can protect the public (or slebs) from this type of lapse…
